Parkwood National Historic Site, Oshawa, ONBest Time of Year: Late spring through early fall, while the formal gardens are planted

Parkwood was built between 1915 and 1917 for Colonel R.S. "Sam" McLaughlin, founder of General Motors of Canada, and his wife Adelaide, to designs by the Toronto firm Darling and Pearson. Fifty-five rooms, 15,000 square feet, and formal gardens the family commissioned from the best landscape designers of the day — all of it preserved, art and furnishings included, as a National Historic Site since 1989. It is the closest thing in the region to shooting on a period film set, and it photographs like one.

Getting There
Parkwood sits just north of downtown Oshawa, about an hour east of downtown Toronto by car, or via the Lakeshore East GO line to Oshawa. There is visitor parking on site. Because it is a working historic site with public hours and private events, your photographer will confirm the day's access and share a meeting point once your session is booked.
